SRU ends season in defeat
ERIE — Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball season ended Wednesday night with a 77-70 loss to Gannon in PSAC tournament play at the Hammermill Center.
The Rock (21-9) trailed by double figures for much of the second half before draining six consecutive treys in a 90-second span. That cut the deficit to four.
But the Golden Knights (21-8) sank their final 10 free throws to hold on for the win.
SRU outscored Gannon 45-24 from the field in the final 20 minutes, but the hosts knocked down 22 of 24 free throws during that span.
Micah Till produced his 22nd double-double of the season for SRU, scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. His 640 points this year are third on The Rock’s single-season list, his 361 rebounds the most in school history for one year.
Till is the only player in NCAA Div. I or II this season with more than 600 points and 350 rebounds.
Brandon Simmons had 19 points, 12 rebounds asnd five blocked shots. His 84 blocked shots this season shattered SRU’s previous season record of 68 set 27 years ago.
Khyree Wooten finished his final game at SRU with 12 points.
Zay Jackson led Gannon with with 20 points. Damon Miraud had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
