‘Grease’ cast announced
The Summer Dramatics Project has announced its cast for the upcoming production of “Grease.”
Skyler Ruth will play the part of Sandy, Chase Livermore, Danny; Chase Uram, Kenickie; and Jessica Ortiz, Rizzo.
The cast of 120 children and adults is rehearsing for the performances July 30, 31, Aug. 1 and 2 at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.
Tickets are available at May’s Music Shoppe. Center section is $12 and the side sections are $10. All seats are reserved.
Lunchtime concert added
The Live at Lunch series, sponsored by the Butler County Symphony Association, at the symphony office, has added Washboard Tony to its schedule. He will play Aug. 19.
Also, a change in the schedule includes Vince and Claudette Sanzotti along with Christina and Maria Savannah replacing the NKC Trio on July 22.
Concerts start at noon at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St.
Movie trailer shown at Mars
MARS — In time for the Mars New Year activities running June 18 to 20, 20th Century Fox has released the trailer for “The Martian,” an upcoming movie based on the novel by Andy Weir.
On June 19 around 10 p.m., the town of Mars will be counting down to the New Year on the planet Mars, celebrating with fireworks, that look like rocket ships, to go along with the theme of the event.
The movie trailer is being provided by Fox Entertainment to be shown on a large screen at 8:30 p.m. June 19, and again just before the fireworks.
The film stars Matt Damon. The release date is Nov. 25.
The festival will launch with a Blast-Off Dinner at 6 p.m. June 18 at Treesdale Golf & Country Club in Gibsonia. Attendance is limited to 150. Tickets are $100. Entertainment for the evening will wrap up with star gazing, weather permitting, from 9:30 to 11 p.m.
The rest of the Mars New Year festival will take place in downtown Mars on June 19 and 20, featuring exhibits from NASA, the University of Pittsburgh’s Mobile Science Lab and Carnegie Science Center. Visit www.MarsNewYear.com.
Snowball Day is June 21
PITTSBURGH — It’s time to take all those saved frozen snowballs to the Carnegie Science Center to celebrate the beginning of summer with Snowball Day on June 21.
On Snowball Day, visitors who bring in saved snowballs can name their own price for general admission.
Participating visitors will have a chance to take part in a Snowball Day tradition from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., banishing winter by launching the snowballs into the Ohio River. The center will debut a new ultimate snowball slingshot this year.
In recognition of the Summer Solstice, the center will present two live science demonstration shows: “Science in a Scoop,” about the science of ice cream; and “Freeze!” about the effects of super-cold liquid nitrogen on things like balloons and rubber balls.
Normal rates apply for parking that day, as well as prices for Omnimax movies and laser show prices.

Brass band plays at ARCA

City hosts summer fest
FORD CITY — The second annual Ford City SummerFest will be held July 2 to 5 in the Ford City Park.
Festival hours are 6 to 11 p.m. July 2 and 3, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 4, and noon to 11 p.m. July 5.
The four day event will feature a 5K run/walk, craft and food booths, daily entertainment, a children’s area, and carriage rides.
Moraine site of programs
Moraine State Park will have a program on the Muddy Creek Oil Field from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The restored Bessemer Gas Engine and Marshall-Barr No. 19 oil well equipment will be open, and visitors can hear and see it.
Volunteers from the Moraine, McConnells Mill, Jennings Commission will be there to operate the engine and answer questions.

Vintage ball day planned
AVELLA — Families can enjoy three 1860s-style “base ball” games, then journey through 16,000 years of history at the National Historic Landmark, from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, 401 Meadowcroft Road.
In addition to vintage baseball, families can enjoy live 19th century American music by the band Home Front, eat summer foods such as hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts, and play fun kid-friendly games on the Meadowcroft lawn.
The Vintage Base Ball event is included with regular admission: $12 for adults, $11 for senior citizens, and $6 for children ages 6 to 17.
