ZELIENOPLE — The Strand Theater Initiative will host a full weekend of silent film classics, all accompanied by a live pianist, just as it would have been done at the historic theater in 1914.

The silent film festival series starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The film slate brings gems from Hollywood's infancy back to the big screen, including the groundbreaking science fiction drama, "Metropolis" and a feature-length Chaplin film showcasing his iconic "Little Tramp" character, "The Kid."

Patrons can also see well-known silent film shorts, "A Trip to the Moon" and Buster Keaton's "One Week."

Pianist David Bruce Smith will accompany the films along with Cy Fleming.

Prepaid ticket orders will be taken through Friday, and any unsold tickets will be available at the door both Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $7 each, with no passes or discounts available.

A bonus matinee of the 1947 John Wayne western, "Angel & The Badman," is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, with tickets at $5 each or $4 for senior citizens age 60 and older.
