WEST HOMESTEAD — Police say nobody was arrested when a fight broke out during a Pittsburgh-area showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” prompting audience members to flee the theater.

Homestead police Chief Jeffrey DeSimone says his officers were called to handle crowd control at the AMC Loews Waterfront 22 theater during the incident shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday. DeSimone suspects patrons ran out of the theater because they were a little “jumpy” in the wake of a shooting that left 12 dead during a midnight premiere of the movie last week in Aurora, Colo.

A spokesman for Atlanta-based AMC says the film was stopped due to a “minor altercation” outside the movie theater that prompted some customers inside to rush the exit. Others were asked to leave calmly and all were given free passes to return at a later date.

Justice Dept. asks if voter ID law is legalHARRISBURG — President Barack Obama’s Department of Justice is asking whether Pennsylvania’s tough new voter law requiring photo identification complies with federal laws.Assistant U.S. Attorney General Thomas Perez wrote to Pennsylvania officials Monday to request information about the law, which says a voter must show an eligible photo ID card for his or her vote to be counted.Republican Gov. Tom Corbett signed the GOP-sponsored law in March without a Democratic vote.The law is being challenged in court as unconstitutional. Democrats say it’s an election year stunt to steal the White House. Republicans say it’s necessary to prevent voting fraud.Among other things, the Department of Justice wants to see if state officials tried to determine how many people don’t have a legal ID for voting.
