Jim Stanek
Seneca Valley's Stanek returns in 'Company'

Former Seneca Valley High School student and Cranberry Township native Jim Stanek has returned to the area to play the lead role of Robert in “Company” in his debut at the Pittsburgh Public Theater.

Stanek has been a working actor in New York City (but still rooting for the Pirates, Penguins and Steelers!) for the last 20 years. He lives with his wife, Beth, and their three boys.

He got his start at Seneca Valley, Comtra Theatre in Cranberry, and the Pittsburgh CLO.

After graduating from Carnegie Mellon, he made his Broadway debut going on for Jude Law in “Indiscretions.” He then played Hero for two years in “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” Other Broadway credits include “The Rivals,” “Little Women,” “Lestat,” and “The Story of My Life.”

In addition to many off-Broadway and regional shows, commercials and voice-overs, his TV and film credits include “Law & Order,” “Guiding Light,” “As the World Turns” and “The Good Wife” and recordings of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Frankenstein,” “3hree Musketeers,” “Sweet Bye and Bye,” “Kitty’s Kisses,” and songs on “Out of Context” and “Love on a Summer Afternoon.”

He most recently played “Son” opposite Marlo Thomas’ “Mother” in the world premiere of “Clever Little Lies” at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, N.J. His last performance in the Pittsburgh area was as Leo Bloom in Pittsburgh CLO’s staging of “The Producers.”

“Company,” Stephen Sondheim’s musical comedy set in Manhattan, will run Jan. 23 to Feb. 23 at the O’Reilly Theater.

“Company” debuted on Broadway in 1970 with its emotional yet unsentimental story told through scenes and songs performed by 14 principals with no chorus. It received six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Music, and Best Original Lyrics.

Show times are 7 p.m. Tuesdays, 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 and 7 p.m. Sundays, with some exceptions.

Tickets range from $29 to $60. Students and anyone age 26 and younger with valid ID pay $15.75. Call 412-316-1600 or visit ppt.org.
