The Butler County Symphony Orchestra's 67th season begins Saturday with a concert featuring pianist Cahill Smith.He will perform Mozart's “Piano Concerto No. 23, K. 488 in A Major” with the orchestra.Butler Symphony music director and conductor Matthew Kraemer will present a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m.The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium, 551 Fairground Hill Road.Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S. JEFFERSON TWP — Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host its annual Oktoberfest celebration, featuring a Zambelli fireworks display, from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Haven I, 112 Marwood Road.For children, there will be balloon artists, a caricature artist, a petting zoo and pony rides, games, crafts, hayrides, and a bounce castle.Entertainment in the dining room will be provided by the Mikey Dee Polka Band. PITTSBURGH — After a 10-year hiatus, the Wings & Wildlife Art Show returns to the National Aviary.This two-day juried show and marketplace will feature original paintings by Johno Pascak, and will showcase the work of 46 locally and nationally known wildlife artists working in paint, photography, textiles, jewelry, metal, ceramics, paper, and wood.The show will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8 and is included in the price of admission, which is $14 for adults, $13 for senior citizens, and $12 for children ages 2 to 12.For more information, visit www.aviary.org or call 412-258-9433.
SLIPPERY ROCK — David Skeele, Slippery Rock University professor of theater and horror-genre playwright, will present “Starla” six times in October along with Infinite Abyss Productions, a horror theater in Florida.Skeele has written four other horror plays and his work has been presented internationally. SRU students have staged his work as part of Fringe Arts Festival Scotland.Skeele, who joined SRU in 1993, has written more than 10 plays and directed more than 35.
BRADY TWP — The Old Stone House will host its “Spooky Stories” Halloween festivities for visitors of all ages from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22 and 23.The program will feature storytelling by Joanna Demarest, Alan Irvine, and Marsha Wong.The program Oct. 23 will include the annual costume contest for children age 10 and younger.In addition to interactive storytelling, festivities will include historical reenactments and family-focused activities.Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children, but no more than $15 for a family.The Old Stone House at the intersection of Routes 8, 173 and 528 is owned and managed by Slippery Rock University.
