Symphony closes seasonThe Butler County Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the season will feature Beethoven Symphony No. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.The concert will feature Young Artist Competition winner Nathaniel Chen, the Slippery Rock University Concert Choir, and soloists Shannon Kessler Dooley, Katherine Drago, Robert Frankenberry and Timothy Lefebvre.Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S. Civil War ship topic of talkMARS — Speaker Conrad Pfeifer will talk about “The USS Monitor Civil War Ironclad Ship” at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mars Public Library Community Room.Pfeifer has 30 years of experience in the diving industry. Butler artist places in top 3WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — “Black Water Reflections” by Glenn Thompson of Butler is one of three finalists in the Reynolda House Museum of American Art and Modern Automotive’s “The Modern Landscape: Black and White Photography Contest.”The competition celebrates the beauty of the American landscape exemplified by the work of artist-photographer Ansel Adams.More than 300 individuals submitted photographs to the competition between Jan. 1 and March 10.Public votes will be taken at sites in Winston-Salem. The overall contest winner will be announced May 18 at Reynolda House.
