SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University will mark Unity Week with a variety of activities, including a Gospel Fest.

Organized and sponsored by the SRU Student Union for Minority Affairs, Unity Week will be held from Nov. 12 to 18. It will include films and specialty foods, all designed to promote campus diversity and unity among students, faculty, staff and the community.

The week opens Nov. 12 with a 6:30 p.m. Gospel Fest, sponsored by Chosen Generation, in the University Union.

The Nov. 13 events offers a "State of America" panel discussion and the film "God and Gays" at 7 p.m. in the Strain Behavioral Science Building Auditorium.

"Taste of the World," sponsored by AVI Food Systems, the campus contract food vendor, will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 in the University Union lobby.

All proceeds will go toward adopting families for Thanksgiving. Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item related to Thanksgiving.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Highlights of this year's football game halftime shows will be presented when the SRU Marching Band presents its annual Stadium Echoes concert at 4 p.m. Nov. 12.The band will present the concert in Morrow Field House. Tickets are $3 at the door and free for SRU students.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Pittsburgh Symphony Quartet will perform Nov. 17 at Slippery Rock University.The quartet's members also will host a residency with 35 SRU music majors, giving them a firsthand look at their lives as classical musicians.The free performance and discussion, open to the public, is set for 1:30 p.m. in the choir room of Swope Music Hall. The quartet will select movements from Dvorak's "American Quartet Op. 96," Mozart's "String Quartet K.465 Dissonance" and Gardel's "Tango Por Una Cabeza."In the morning, the quartet will host a residency program for third through fifth graders at Slippery Rock Elementary School.

SLIPPERY ROCK. — Pianist Nanette Kaplan Solomon, professor of music at Slippery Rock University, will present "Wandering through Oz: Piano Fantastique" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Swope Recital Hall on the SRU campus.The free program will offer a solo recital of "The Wizard of Oz" and other fantasies.
