Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel has been named to the state Geospatial Coordinating Board by Gov. Tom Wolf.

County Judge Michael Yeager on Tuesday administered the oath of office to Boozel.

Among the tasks of the “GeoBoard” are gathering and providing data for maps with the goal of improving governmental operations as well as business in various industries.

The GeoBoard is also important for security reasons, as members determine the information that should or should not be disseminated publicly.

As an essential service provider, Central Electric Cooperative will continue to maintain service while adding appropriate protective measures during the spread of the coronavirus.CEC has suspended all service shutoffs for past due accounts until further notice.Members can continue to call 800-282-8610 to report an outage. Those with general, urgent needs can call 800-521-0570.Members also may use www.central.coop or SmartHub (CEC's online account management service) to contact CEC, and for additional service assistance.While employees continue working to maintain service, members may notice some interruptions in normal accessibility, the company said.

In order to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, state Sen. Scott Hutchinson announced Friday that the Oil City, Butler and Warren offices of the 21st District will be temporarily closed to visitors.Staff will continue to answer telephone calls: Oil City at 814-677-6331; Butler, 724-282-1234; and Warren, 814-728-2100, and respond to emails at shutchinson@pasen.gov.

Access to all buildings and facilities on Butler County Community College's main campus and at its additional locations is immediately closed to students, faculty, nonessential staff and the public until further notice in compliance with a statewide directive by Gov. Tom Wolf.BC3 employees will conduct college business remotely until further notice. Employees who are deemed essential will be granted administrative approval to access BC3's main campus and additional locations.BC3 will move to remote instruction Monday, a format that will continue through the end of the spring 2020 semester.
