During the Wednesday meeting of Butler County Community College Board of Trustees:

The trustees approved applying to the state Department of Education for $6 million grant for the proposed Victor K. Phillips Nursing and Allied Health Building. The proposed $12 million nursing and allied health building would house the Shaffer School of Nursing and Allied Health.

Former state Sen. Tim Shaffer and Janice Phillips Larrick of Butler Township donated $1 million each and the BC3 Education Foundation raised $300,000 toward the $6 million match for the grant.

The trustees granted tenure to faculty members Julia Carney, Lindsay Herr, Travis Timmons and Laura Wiest and promoted Karen Stubenbort and Amy Xin from assistant professors to associate professors.

The trustees also awarded two contracts for more than $617,413 to Shields Asphalt Paving of Valencia for a parking lot paving project at the main campus.

The project is being paid for using $300,000 in state funding and $300,000 in capital reserves.
