Man allegedly pointed gun during road rage incident
SUMMIT TWP — An Armstrong County man is accused of pointing a loaded handgun at two other motorists during an apparent case of road rage.
State police arrested Joseph S. Fryar, 46, of Ford City following the incident Monday morning on Route 422 west in Summit Township. No one was hurt.
The victims, two men, were in separate vehicles about 10:25 a.m. when they passed Fryar’s 2016 Hyundai Elantra.
While each driver was passing the suspect, he “exhibited a silver pistol and pointed at them,” according to court documents.
Both victims immediately called 911 and police were notified. The other motorists reported that the suspect was still following them.
Eventually, all three men proceeded onto Route 356 at the Lyndora exit.
Authorities advised the victims to pull into the VA Butler Healthcare parking lot, police said.
Fryar followed the motorists into the lot, where Trooper David Thompson made his traffic stop.
In the defendant’s car, the officer found two guns — a loaded, silver .380-caliber pistol that was similar to the gun described by the victims, and a black .32-caliber pistol.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Fryar on two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct.
A preliminary hearing for Fryar, who is free on his own recognizance, is set for Sept. 27 at Stoughton’s office in Chicora.
