Making a list and checking it twice

Dear Santa,

Where does the time go?

Here is my annual Christmas gift list which I’m hoping you can fill for these fine folks:

To MIKE KILROY, Eagle Sports Writer: A one-way ticket out of Buffalo for Nate Peterman. (I see you’re ahead of me on this one ... dispatching him to Oakland, nice touch).

To CHRIS BOSWELL, Steelers kicker: Wider goalposts and a shorter memory.

To DEREK PYDA, Eagle Sports Writer: A reason for the Steelers to party in New Orleans.

To ETHAN MORTON, Butler basketball player: Numerous celebrations with teammates — for team accomplishments.

To ERIC CHRISTY, Butler football coach: Quicker starts, no merciful endings.

To MATT CLEMENT, Butler basketball coach: A section title.

To ROB CARMODY, Mars basketball coach: Another father-son moment at the WPIAL Championships.

To SHAWN LUTZ, Slippery Rock University football coach: Some home playoff games, though the sites don’t seem to matter.

To JEFF MESSER, SRU baseball coach: His 1,000th victory and a PSAC title to go with it.

To the PITTSBURGH STEELERS: A visit from the Ghost of Bad Football Losses Past. They need to ask for three do-overs.

To LE’VEON BELL, running back: A dancing duet with the scarecrow to the lyrics “If I Only Had a Brain ...”

To SCOTT STONER, Butler wrestling coach: Fast-learning freshmen.

To GREGORY POLANCO, Pirate outfielder: A diagram of proper sliding technique.

To BOB NUTTING, Pittsburgh Pirate owner: The spirit of spending.

To the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS: Proof that three out of four ain’t bad.

To JOE FLACCO, Baltimore Ravens quarterback: Relocation to a warmer climate ... Jacksonville, perhaps.

To DAVE HEASTINGS, retiring Buler Eagle city editor: Years of enjoyment with family and self-satisfaction over a job well done.

To HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES: The wisdom to learn from Josh Gordon and Martavis Bryant that if you let drugs into your life, they may never leave.

To NICK PATTEN, COLIN MCKEE and DAVID BEDNAR, former Butler County baseball players now in minor leagues: Quick ascensions.

To SCOOP: Another 100-win football season.

To JORDAN GEIST, Knoch graduate: A berth on the U.S. Olympic track and field team. (If you don’t give it to him, Santa, he’s just gonna take it.)

To the CLEVELAND BROWNS: A playoff berth in 2019. (If you don’t give it to them, Santa, they’re just gonna take it.)

To LERNERVILLE SPEEDWAY: Clear skies on Friday nights.

To SENECA VALLEY WRESTLING: Two more wins in the PIAA team tournament.

To EVERYONE: A joyous Christmas season and the materializing of miracles.

Merry Christmas!
