Crick injured in clubhouse dust-up

SAN FRANCISCO — A clubhouse dust-up has ended the season of Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Kyle Crick.

The right-hander underwent extensor tendon surgery on the index finger of his pitching hand Tuesday and is projected to return in time for Spring Training next season, the Pirates announced.

Crick was injured when he and Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez got into an altercation before Monday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

The Pirates said the conduct violated the players’ contracts and they have been fined an undisclosed amount.

“The behavior exhibited by these two players (Monday) night is unacceptable, inconsistent with the standards expected of a Major League player and will not be tolerated by the organization,” said Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.
