Volunteers needed for trail events

Locals can help out or enjoy the Butler-Freeport Trail by participating in upcoming events.

Chris Ziegler, president of the trail council, said all are welcome to attend a workday from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Work to be done includes installing gates and landscaping in Summit Township.

Participants should park at the old Vin and Joe's ballfield on Herman Road, walk across Herman Road and head south on the trail.

A GPS pin of the location is available on the Butler-Freeport Community Trail's Facebook page, under “Fall Volunteer Workday.”

Rakes, shovels and gloves are helpful, Ziegler said.

Volunteers are needed for the Buffalo Creek Half Marathon, which is the trail's largest annual fundraiser.

The marathon will be held Oct. 16. Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to noon.

Those who can help should e-mail Ziegler at butlerfreeporttrail@googlegroups.com.

Ziegler reminds Halloween enthusiasts that a “Haunted Caboose” event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at the historic caboose in Cabot.

All are invited to attend.
