Woman convicted in death of daughterA woman has been convicted of third-degree murder in the death of her 3-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a ravine last year.An Allegheny County jury convicted Adrienne Williams, 37, on Friday, their fourth day of deliberations.Prosecutors contend the Wilkinsburg woman somehow asphyxiated Adrionna Williams — they never said where or how — before leaving the girl’s body in a wooded area of Swissvale in June 2015.Williams’ attorney argued the failure to pinpoint exactly where and how the girl was killed meant Williams shouldn’t be convicted.But prosecutors say surveillance video and cellphone records show Williams drove to and from the area where the girl’s body was found despite claiming she left the girl at her grandmother’s house and went to work.

University offers transgender planPITTSBURGH — Faculty and staff members at the University of Pittsburgh now receive transgender benefits, including behavioral health support, medications and surgery.Officials say the change, which was sent to employees last week, is meant to bring the university into compliance with federal rules on sex discrimination in employment.A question-and-answer sheet says transgender-related evaluations and procedures will be covered if they are “medically necessary,” including breast construction or removal, hormone therapy and genital reconstruction.
