Murder suspect returned to Pgh.
A former Cranberry Township man charged in the death of his ex-girlfriend in early October was extradited back to Pittsburgh and placed in the Allegheny County Jail on homicide charges.
Matthew Darby, 21, a Seneca Valley High School graduate, was extradited from South Carolina, where he was arrested for loitering.
He is accused of killing University of Pittsburgh student Alina Sheykhet in her off-campus apartment.
He was jailed without bail Friday on charges of criminal homicide, burglary, flight to avoid apprehension, theft and possessing instruments of crime. A preliminary hearing in Pittsburgh Municipal Court has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 17 before Judge Jeffrey Manning.
Sheykhet obtained a protection from abuse order against Darby before he allegedly killed her.
Pittsburgh police filed charges against Darby after he was allegedly seen on video surveillance discarding the suspected murder weapon in a sewer blocks for Sheykhet’s home. His last known address was in Greensburg.
