Pittsburgh man charged with assault, theft
SLIPPERY ROCK — A Pittsburgh man is facing assault and retail theft charges after allegedly stealing 15 items from the borough's Giant Eagle store and subsequently causing injuries to a man who tried to stop him from getting away.
According to court documents filed by the borough police department, Fred L. Ramsey Jr., 22, allegedly stole about $97 in assorted groceries from the store on Aug. 25, and was confronted by a store employee after walking to his vehicle.
Ramsey and the employee had walked back into the store, police said, when Ramsey bolted out of a conference room and tried to run outside.
The employee, identified in court documents as William D. Richards, tried to block Ramsey from exiting the store and was bowled over by the man in what police called a “shoulder block” motion.
Richards suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung, according to court documents.
