Meridian rally extends season

KARNS CITY — Meridian scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to snap a tie and held on to defeat Karns City, 3-2, Sunday night in Butler County legion tournament play.

The loss eliminated Karns City (6-13-1). Meridian (4-16) plays at Cranberry Township today at 8:15 p.m.

Josh Albert scored the go-ahead run from second base while a teammate was in a rundown. Cole Thompson then hit a single to plate Nick Grosch.

Steve O’Donnell hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh for Karns City. O’Donnell had three hits and two RBI in the game.

Devin Hayward was the winning pitcher for Meridian, throwing 86 pitches in a route-going effort. Jimmy Thompson pitched all seven innings for Karns City.

Thompson had three hits for Meridian.
