Last month's landslide damages road
Brown Road in Center Township is restricted to one lane at the spot of a March landslide.
CENTER TWP — A landslide last month has caused damage to Brown Road near the intersection with McCandless Road.
Township supervisors, at their meeting this week, authorized Gateway Engineers to spend up to $12,000 to drill for soil samples, conduct tests and draw up a design to stabilize the earth and fix the road.
David Heath, township engineer, said expanding shale caused the road to partially collapse. The damage was in a stretch of the road where the land slopes down to Little Connoquenessing Creek. The township has installed temporary “Stop” signs and reduced the road to one lane of traffic.
