SUMMIT TWP — Just days before Valentine's Day, a man landed in jail on charges he threw his girlfriend out of a truck and drove away, allegedly drunk, leaving her injured and lying on the road, crying for help.

State police Wednesday arrested 46-year-old Rodger William Anthony after they found him at his home a short time after the alleged incident. Police said he confessed to the crime.

He was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, simple assault, harassment, driving with a suspended licence and careless driving. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

A 911 call shortly before 3 a.m. sent police and paramedics to the scene in the 400 block of Herman Road.

The caller reported hearing a woman yelling for help, and then finding her in the middle of the road.

A medical crew was tending to the victim, Holly Thompson, when troopers got there, according to court documents.

She had cuts and bruises to her face, chest, arms and knees. Those injuries, police said, were from her hitting the pavement.

Thompson told investigators that she and Anthony had been drinking at her cousin's house where they got into an argument.

The couple left but continued to argue as they traveled in Anthony's truck. The defendant called her a derogatory name, she told police, and then threw her from his truck.

Thompson was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

It didn't take long for police to find the defendant at his home. He corroborated his girlfriend's account, documents said.

Police took him to the barracks for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.132 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Anthony's preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 21 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
