Art show highlights student creativity
The 15th annual Fine Arts and Beyond (FAB) Showcase held on Saturday evening at the Butler Intermediate High School included thousands of works of art, musical presentations, art demonstrations, delicious goodies and 55 baskets that could be won by the art lovers who attended.
The free event is a major fundraiser for the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation, which offers scholarships to graduating seniors, provides creative teaching grants to Butler School District educators and helps fund the district's Kids' Weekend Backpack Program that helps feed elementary students in need.
Audray Muscatello Yost, a retired teacher and president of the foundation, said the event usually attracts about 2,000 people.
Every hallway in the school offered some type of art, including drawings, pottery, photography, sculptures and more.
Musical acts including a string ensemble and a ukulele group performed just inside the entrance.
“It's a wonderful event for the entire community and sheds light on our students in the arts,” said Ed Fink, a former teacher and Butler superintendent who has served on the board since the first showcase 15 years ago,
