[naviga:h3]BLT opens comedy[/naviga:h3]

Butler Little Theatre closes its 77th season with “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” opening Friday at the BLT at One Howard St.

The comedy will run through May 12.

Curtain is at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tickets are $13.

[naviga:h3]Band plans release party[/naviga:h3]

The band Appalachian Doom Gospel has released “Little Blue EP” and has planned a party to help celebrate.

The party is set for 7 p.m. May 12 at the Butler Art Center, 344 S. Main St.

Members of the band include Zach Reed, slide guitar and vocals; Cody Clark, guitar and vocals; Abe Zito, washboard; David Beck, bass and guitar on “Scarlet Sin;” Laurel Wain, vocals; Ian Compton, trumpet; and Dan Lafferty, drummer. (Nic Temple recorded drums on the EP).

Primary songwriters of the group are Reed and Clark.

A portion of the proceeds from the show will benefit renovations at the Art Center.

[naviga:h3]Freeport site of art, concert[/naviga:h3]

The annual Freeport School District Art Show will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 16 in the high school cafeteria.

The high school band concert will be held the same evening at 7 p.m.

Admission is free.

[naviga:h3]Music Society hosts recital[/naviga:h3]

ADAMS TWP — Opus I Music Society will present its Honors Recital at 7 p.m. May 11 at LifePointe Alliance Church, Route 228.

This annual celebration of the National Federation of Music Clubs’ “National Music Week” will feature three scholarship recipients who are college students studying music, outstanding musicians from local high schools and numerous students of member teachers.

The entries in the Poster Contest, “Music ... the Universal Language,” will be displayed and two winners will be announced.

A reception will follow. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for the Opus I Scholarship Fund.

[naviga:h3]Men’s chorus to perform[/naviga:h3]

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Men’s Chorus and Quartets will present Harmony Revival at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School.

Featured guests will be the Reen Family Singers.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door; students pay $5.

The chorus is accepting new members. The group meets Monday nights at Dutilh United Methodist Church, 1270 Dutilh Road.
