6 residents honored as Volunteers of the Year
CRANBERRY TWP — The board of supervisors last Thursday honored volunteers for the township’s parks and recreation programs, citing them as the reason those programs run smoothly.
Six volunteers were named 2019 Volunteer of the Year, with their duties varying from scheduling games to coaching youth, receiving a plaque from the township noting their service:
- Joe DeCristoforo, who for 22 years has scheduled games for the athletic association’s baseball and softball leagues
- Seth Murray, who single-handedly began a summer soccer training program, free for Seneca Valley Soccer Association players that sees hundreds of players participating each year
- Dave Bacher, who has coached baseball, soccer and basketball and, for more than nine years, has served as treasurer for Seneca Valley Junior Football and Cheerleading
- Mark VandeWater, who began coaching lacrosse for his son’s teams and has since served as a coach for nine years, painting the field and introducing players to the lacrosse association’s fall ball program
- A referee for 15 years, Arron Morrow helped the basketball league programs grow and serves as a “fill-in” coach when needed
- Dan Kramer was one of the first volunteers to serve as coach for the department’s dek hockey league and has since helped to create a plan to ensure competitive balance and evaluate player skills.
