Church goes whole hog for delayed fundraiser

Twins Piper, left, and Kendall Rose, 8, serve themselves at Trinity Community Presbyterian Church's pig roast Friday. The church had planned to hold the fundraiser in February but had to delay it. There was also a free Christian rock concert at the event, during which Ryan Stevenson performed.

The Trinity Community Presbyterian Church traveled a long road to finally host its worship dinner fundraiser Friday night.

The pig roast and Christian rock show fundraiser for the church was supposed to be at Mel Ebig's restaurant when it was scheduled in February. However, Mel's Place was unable to operate out of its new building in Valencia, so the fundraiser took place at the church instead.Although Ebig is starting from scratch on relocating her restaurant, she said she still wanted to host the benefit because of the resiliency of the church members.“I still needed this day to happen,” Ebig said. “This parish almost didn't make it, but because of the drive of the members who stuck it out, we were able to bring in a pastor and revamp.”Christian rock artist Ryan Stevenson performed a free concert at the church. Ebig said the event originally had an entree fee, a portion of which would be given to the church and the Lighthouse Foundation, but the event simply provided a box to receive donations instead.Ebig said both the church and the Lighthouse Foundation have been aiding people in the area for years.“Those are just two foundations that I hold in my heart,” she said. “I know people personally who they have benefited. They needed help, and they got it from them.”
