Scooter-riding teen hits side of moving vehicle
BUTLER — A 16-year-old boy was transported by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital Monday after slamming into a vehicle while riding a nonmotorized scooter on Heime Avenue.
The accident occurred about 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Heime and Zeigler avenues in the city's South Side neighborhood.
Butler City Police report the boy was riding down Heime Avenue when he ran into the passenger side door of a moving Nissan Rogue SUV crossing the intersection on Zeigler Avenue.
The teen was unable to stop his scooter in time to avoid the collision, according to police. The force of the crash left a dent in the passenger side of the SUV.
Capt. Kevin McAfee of the Butler City Fire Department said the boy was being transferred to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. “He's got a minor cut to the chin and a leg injury. It's not real critical, but they will be able to check him better at Children's,” he said.
Butler Ambulance Service was present at the scene.
