New-look SV opens season on road

Seneca Valley's Hank Royal runs through North Allegheny's Ethan Mazena in October 2016.

The second Ron Butschle era at Seneca Valley will officially get underway Friday night.

The Raiders travel to Peters Township for a non-conference game that will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

Butschle's first run as Raiders head coach lasted five seasons (2004-08). His squad prepped for 2017 in scrimmages against New Castle and Blackhawk.

Sophomore quarterback Gabe Lawson will make his first career start against the Indians after limited playing time as a freshman.

Peters Township opened the season last week with a 45-13 win against Chartiers Valley.

Indians coach T.J. Plack is hoping for better results defensively from last year's 48-24 loss to SV at NexTier Stadium. In that contest, the Raiders scored six touchdowns in the first half. However, most of the playmakers from that game are now in college.

A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
