The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and Presidents' Athletic Conference have suspended athletically-related spring activities in response to coronavirus concerns.
The PSAC announced all athletic competition for the remainder of the spring semester is suspended. The PAC suspension of activities is for an indefinite period.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University is suspending all countable related athletic activities — practices, recruiting, camps and clinics, etc. — until March 30.The PSAC Board of Directors will review a proposal from the from the athletic administrators March 30 on whether to permit those activities at that time.
USA Hockey has announced the cancellation of its Disabled Hockey Festival due to concerns of the spread of COVID-19.The event was to take place over the weekends of March 26-29 and April 2-5 with games at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, RMU Isl;and Spors Center and Baierl Ice Compex in Warrendale.Hockey teams involving deaf and blind people, along with other physically handicapped individuals, were scheduled to come to the region from all over the country.“The loss of a tournament of this magnitude will be felt throughout the county,” said Jack Cohen, President of Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau, in a released statement. “While we are disheartened about the impact on our businesses, we feel it is important to be proactive in protecting the citizens and visitors of Butler County.”
HARMONY — The Rotary Club of Zelienople has cancelled the Shamrock Shuffle Race slated March 21 in Harmony.Notifications to all participants has begun and race refunds will be made.With more than 400 racers, volunteers and support organizations involved in the event, the race was called off out of concern over the coronaviris situation.The Shamrock Shuffle is expected to return in March of 2021.
