Karns City prelim budget includes property tax increase

Karns City School District passed a preliminary final budget at Monday's meeting that includes a property tax increase up to index.

KARNS CITY — Karns City School District passed a preliminary final budget at Monday's meeting that includes a property tax increase up to index.

The preliminary budget passed with estimated revenue and expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year at $24,455,424, which is an increase from this year's $23,681,656.

Karns City Superintendent Eric Ritzert said the district did not increase taxes last year, but the schools need work.

“We're looking at the renovation of the Junior/Senior High School and a small addition to the Chicora complex, with the likelihood of closing the Sugarcreek building in the future,” Ritzert said. “We wanted to look at raising some revenue for that upcoming project.”
