Maddox Weltner, 2, sits on the step of a U.S. Postal Service delivery truck outside the Butler Post Office. Maddox, son of Julia Crawford and Chandler Weltner, both of Butler, spent about an hour and half Friday morning waving to drivers as they left the station to deliver the day's mail. His mother says that Maddox is obsessed with the mail carrier and wants to be one when he grows up. He wore his “postman's hat and vest” that he received, along with a mail truck, for his birthday. The mail truck unfortunately wasn't big enough to sit in, so when a young mail carrier offered Maddox the chance to sit on the steps of a real truck, the boy jumped at the chance.

Maddox Weltner, who just turned 2, planned to deliver some happiness Friday. Wearing his “postman’s hat and vest” and carrying his delivery bag, he stood outside the Butler Post Office waving to the drivers as they left the station to deliver the day’s mail. Julie Crawford and Chandler Weltner, both of Butler, took him the post office. Julia was overwhelmed by the reactions from the mail carriers who honk their horns or got out to meet Maddox. Even passersbys gave Maddox encouragement, telling him to have a great day. Crawford said that when Maddox was asked if he wanted to do it again he gave an emphatic yes.Harold Aughton/Butler Eagle
