Johnson, Raye leading way for The Rock

Slippery Rock wide receiver Cornelius "Milly" Raye (10) breaks free of West Chester defender Deionte Wilson (22).

SLIPPERY ROCK — Defending Slippery Rock University's football team is pretty basic.

At least, for now.

“Keep the ball out of the hands of No. 9 and 10,” Lock Haven coach Dave Taynor said. “We need to find a way to do that.”

The Bald Eagles (0-2) travel to SRU (2-0) for a 6 p.m. kickoff Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. But keeping the football from receivers Marcus Johnson (9) and Cornelius “Milly” Raye (10) may be easier said than done.

Rock quarterback Tanner Garry has completed 38 passes this season, all but nine to Johnson and Raye. The receiving duo has 599 of his 694 yards passing and has caught seven of his nine touchdown tosses.

SRU has not lost to the Bald Eagles since 1980, having gone 32-0-1 in the series since. Lock Haven's last winning season was 1982.

A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
