District reports progress with buses

A solution to the Butler Area School District's busing problem should soon arrive, the district's superintendent announced Friday.

“I am pleased to report that significant progress has been made in re-establishing our transportation routes and stops,” Superintendent Brian White wrote in a message to parents Friday. “Yesterday, we spent the bulk of the day editing data that had been eliminated or incorrectly written over. Last night, we began the process of loading students and routing our buses.”

White said emails and text messages will soon go out to parents to have them come in and pick up transportation cards with school bus pickup information. They'll be calling parents who do not have an email on file.

The newly assigned pickups are a temporary solution to allow school to open Tuesday, White noted, and might change to more suitable routes after that date.

The district website has an online form posted on which parents can report needed changes to those routes or bus stops.

School was supposed to begin for Butler students Thursday, but critical issues in the software being used to map and assign bus routes delayed the start until Tuesday.

The database of bus stops for returning students was eliminated, White said Friday, meaning the new stops could be different from in years prior come Tuesday.

“I know these issues have been inconvenient and stressful for some of our families,” White said. “I am sincerely sorry that our year is starting this way.”
