CHERRY TWP — A motorcyclist suffered an apparent broken leg this morning when he collided with a deer on Route 308 in front of Moniteau High School, authorities said.

Ronald McKissick, 70, of Center Township was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital after the accident just before 5:10 a.m. in Cherry Township.

State police said McKissick was traveling north on Route 308 when a deer ran onto the road from the southbound lane and into his Yamaha V Star.

McKissick ended up on the grass berm and the bike ended up on the driveway entrance to the high school, according to emergency crews. Police said he was wearing a helmet.

He was conscious, alert and talking when police found him, authorities said. Butler Ambulance Service medics tended to him before he was taken to the hospital with what appeared to be a fractured left leg.

The road never closed to traffic. The West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
