1 dies at BMH from COVID-19

5 new cases confirmed

One person died at Butler Memorial Hospital while the state reported zero new deaths due to COVID-19 on Monday.

A Butler Health System official said the patient died on Friday, but they were not sure which county was their permanent residence.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health records deaths by the county listed as the deceased's permanent residence.

According to Monday's report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Butler County's death toll remained at 18, and the county added five new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The county now has a total of 720 confirmed cases of the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.

In a news release Monday, the state once again did not include Butler County in its list of counties with concerning percent-positivity rates. The county was listed in the moderate level of community transmission.

According to data spanning from Aug. 21 to Thursday, the county had a 2.1 percent-positivity rate and saw a decrease of five in new confirmed cases.

Wolf applauded and encouraged the continuation of mitigation efforts, such as wearing masks, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.

“Our percent positivity decreased again this week, representing the fifth straight week that the percent positivity has decreased,” said Wolf in a news release Monday. “This is a testament that our actions are working, but we still have more work to do.”

Also Monday, the Department of Health shared an update on Pennsylvania's COVID-19 case investigation and contact tracing data.

Between Sunday, Aug. 16, and Saturday, Aug. 22, there were 4,536 COVID-19 cases statewide and 78 percent of all cases had a case investigation started within 24 hours of receiving the positive report.

“We have a growing team of dedicated professionals equipped to do this work and truly make a difference,” said Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine. “But we need our fellow Pennsylvanians to pick up the phone when they call, share where they went and who they came in contact with to complete a case investigation.”
