President Donald Trump finishes his first State of the Union address in the House chamber of the U.S. Capitol to a joint session of Congress Tuesday in Washington, as Vice President Mike Pence and House Speaker Paul Ryan applaud.

President Donald Trump took Tuesday’s State of the Union as a chance to trumpet tax reform and other accomplishments from the past year.

Trump also touched on illegal immigration, creating jobs and investing in the country’s infrastructure in his address, which was pegged as the third-longest State of the Union ever delivered.

Rep. Mike Kelly, R-3rd, in a statement following the address said that the night was a celebration of America “winning again.”

“As President Trump made clear, by every measurement, the United States is racing full force in the right direction again. Our economy is roaring and American confidence is soaring,” the statement read.

He also praised Trump’s ambition and call to put strength, safety, and economic security of the country above political differences.

Kelly, in an interview Tuesday afternoon, said that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has had an immediate impact. Signed by the president in December, the act lowered individual and corporate tax rates and raised the standard deduction.

Constituents have shared with him that they were looking forward to getting increased paychecks this year, he said.

“It has been an incredible lift to our economy, our nation’s spirits and our future,” he said.

Not everyone had a glowing review of the address and of Trump’s first year in office.

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., on his Twitter page and in a statement Tuesday night criticized the president and Republicans in Congress for cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthiest Americans.

“Donald Trump’s presidency has been a series of broken promises to the middle class and workers, a fact which tonight’s address did not change,” he wrote.
