Season’s first steam show set

PORTERSVILLE — “Spring Gas-up” will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Portersville Steam Show Grounds, 1512 Perry Highway.

The event will feature displays and demonstrations of antique farm and oil field equipment, antique autos, crafts, a flea market, saw milling and an old tractor just-for-fun pulling contest.

Vintage Village will have an operating Linotype machine, an operational 1880s machine shop, a steam engine building, a model train exhibit, toys and an old dairy equipment display.

Re-enactors will be available to answer questions at a Civil War exhibit in the log house. There also will be a trading post, gas station and food.

Musical medicine concert slated

ZELIENOPLE — The Zelienople Community Park will stage a “musical medicine” concert from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the park’s James A. Ayers Sr. Amphitheater.

The free community event is for children and families. Professionals from the community will discuss musical therapies and the use of music to teach, heal and empower children.

Concordia plans fishing derby

JEFFERSON TWP — Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host a free fishing derby for children 14 and younger from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 30 at Saxony Farm Estate, Addy Boy Lane, Saxonburg.

Lake Saxony is fully stocked. Fishing licenses will not be required. However, an adult must accompany all children. Hot dogs, refreshments and prizes for the largest catch will be available.

Take a fishing rod. Concordia will provide bait and a limited number of fishing rods. Volunteers will teach the basics and provide other assistance.

A tent with chairs will provide shade. Guests also may wish to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Parking is free. Registration is preferred.

BHS Class of ’53 plans mini-reunion

LYNDORA — The Butler High School Class of 1953 will have a mini-reunion June 13 at the Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave.

Registration will start at 5 p.m., and a buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The reservation deadline is June 1.
