[naviga:h3]Moniteau's Parenti qualifies for region[/naviga:h3]

GROVE CITY — Moniteau graduate James Parenti, a freshman on the Grove City College men's track and field team, has qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships in the weight throw.

The competition takes place Friday and Saturday at Nazareth College in Rocheser, N.Y.

Parenti's qualifying throw of 50 feet, 3.5 inches ranks 28th in the nation.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Blue Ivy and Touchamatic, horses owned and trained by Bill and Renee Bercury of Slippery Rock, finished first and second in the $18,000 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace in harness racing Wednesday at The Meadows.

Blue Ivy won her seventh consecutive race, dating back to last season.

Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown drove Amazing Ponderosa, trained by Chris Oluvic of Cranberry Township, to victory at 17-1 odds in a $10,700 Conditioned Pace.

[naviga:h3]SRU field hockey tops academically[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women’s field hockey team has received the National Field Hockey Coaches Association/Zag Sports National Academic Award for having the sport’s highest GPA in the nation for Division II.

SRU’s team GPA is 3.76. This is the third straight year The Rock has won this award and seventh time in the last 10 years.
