A woman escaped with no injuries after early morning flames engulfed and gutted a South Buffalo Township home.

The call came into the 911 center for a fire on White Rock Road in Armstrong County about 9:20 a.m. Several Butler County fire departments responded or were on standby.

Authorities believe the fire was caused by a possibly faulty generator that was running in the garage.

One of the homeowners was home at the time of the fire. The woman said she heard a pop.

According to Freeport Fire Chief, Thomas Sweeney Jr., “the next thing (the homeowners) knew it was ripping.”

Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire in about 25 minutes after they arrived. The house in considered a complete loss.

Although the home is close to the Allegheny River, crews needed four tankers to battle the flames.

The woman was able to escape the home without injury. Sweeney said the other homeowner was out buying more fuel for the generator when the blaze broke out.
