Two with critical injuries after three-vehicle accident closes 422
CLEARFIELD TWP -- An accident involving three vehicles on Route 422 near Moran Road occurred at about 4:20 p.m. Saturday injuring five people, and one of those people was evacuated via a helicopter, according to state police.
The exact cause and circumstances of the accident remain under investigation by state police because drivers provided conflicting accounts of what happened, a state trooper reported.
Three of the involved people suffered minor injuries, while the remaining two suffered critical injuries, police report.
Police plan to publish an update on the situation later in the investigation.
Police could confirm that two involved trucks were traveling westbound on Route 422 when they crashed, and their collision pulled a third vehicle, a sedan, into the wreck.
Traffic heading both directions was shut down for well over an hour after the accident.
The most seriously injured person was evacuated by STAT MedEvac to Pittsburgh. The other person with major injuries was taken to Allegheny General Hospital.
As of 6:00 p.m. traffic has begun moving, according to emergency dispatchers.
