JACKSON TWP — A township man escaped injury this morning when his car skidded off Dutch Creek Drive and ended in a creek, authorities said.

Icy road conditions were blamed for the accident shortly before 7:30 a.m., said Jackson Township Police Chief Terry Seilhamer.

“The temperature dropped and there was a flash freeze that made the road slick from the rain turning to ice,” he said.

Florent Murtezi, 24, was driving down a hill that bends as it approaches Toll Gate School Road. But instead of veering left, according to police, his 2012 Volkswagen sedan went straight.

“He hit an ice patch and went over an embankment and into a creek, front end first,” Seilhamer said.

Murtezi was able to get out on his own and walk to his house nearby. Police were notified and found the car in the shallow creek not more than 50 feet off the road.

A local towing service was called and removed the car, which sustained moderate damage.

No charges were filed.
