Knoch graduate struck, killed by vehicle in Tenn.
A former Butler County woman and the good Samaritan who stopped to help her were both struck and killed Saturday on a busy interstate highway in eastern Tennessee.
Sarah Kasunic, 23, a graduate of Knoch High School and Butler County Community College, died Saturday at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
The Knoxville News Sentinel newspaper reported Monday that shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, Ashley Moore, 38, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., apparently stopped to help Kasunic, after Kasunic was involved in a crash on I-40 east of Knoxville.
Both Moore and Kasunic got out of their vehicles and were struck by a vehicle traveling east on the interstate, police told the News Sentinel.
Moore died at the scene. Kasunic died after being taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Police identified the driver of the eastbound vehicle as McKenzie Lashley, 31, and his passenger as Cassidy Jones, 25, both of Knoxville. They were not hurt.
The crash remained under investigation late Monday. Authorities have not indicated whether criminal charges may be filed, according to the News Sentinel.
Kasunic was a registered nurse in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, according to public records.
While at Knoch, the former Jefferson Township resident played tennis and participated in extra curricular activities such as National Honor Society, speech and debate, and Spanish Club.
She graduated from Knoch in 2013 and from BC3 in 2016.
A GoFundMe campaign started Sunday to raise money for her medical expenses and funeral costs had raised more than $13,000 by Monday night.
