New Sheetz is open
The new Sheetz gas station has opened across from the Clearview Mall.
The grand opening began with a donation from Sheetz to the Special Olympics in Butler County.
“Every time we have a store opening we make a $2,500 donation local chapter of the Special Olympics,” said Lou Sheetz, a mostly retired member of the Sheetz family.
Tim Spence, a local athlete, accepted the award on behalf the Butler Special Olympics chapter.
Spence has competed in the Special Olympics for more than 20 years.
In his remarks he emphasized the importance of the event sin reminding all athletes that sports has more to do the mind and heart than with body.
"Because of the Special Olympics, I have been able to do things I never thought I could,” he said.
The new location is one of several that Sheetz is opening in the area and features a car wash and a drive-in, said Sheetz.
“The drive-through has become quite an added convenience for us,” he said.
Additionally, he said the company is pleased to have a location with enough property for the car wash.
Sheetz said the company now has five locations in the Butler area and are happy to be expanding. “We've been fortunate to open a few this year,” he said.
