The Butler Fall Festival is planned for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23 on Main Street in downtown Butler.

Festivities will include live entertainment, arts, crafts and food vendors, children’s activities and a car cruise.

[naviga:h3]Oktoberfest this weekend[/naviga:h3]

EVANS CITY — Evans City Oktoberfest is back for a 31st year to celebrate the borough’s German heritage.

The festival begins Friday and runs through Sunday in downtown Evans City.

Activities begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the popular quilt show at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

The Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department will kick things off at 7 a.m. Saturday with its all-you- can-eat pancake breakfast. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

Sunday brings the community church service at 11 a.m.

Crafters and food vendors will be set up from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

[naviga:h3]SR VillageFest this Saturday [/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock’s VillageFest event is back on Main Street, and organizers are expecting the annual gathering of craft and food vendors, civic organizations and performers to draw thousands of people into the borough Saturday.

The official opening ceremony for VillageFest will be 10 a.m. on Main Street.

After that Main Street transforms into a carnival atmosphere of food, crafts, street performances by dancers, musicians and other entertainers, as well as family friendly activities for people of all ages.

[naviga:h3]‘Biloxi Blues’ opens season[/naviga:h3]

“Biloxi Blues,” the second chapter of Neil Simon’s Eugene trilogy, centers on the journey of a young army recruit, Eugene Morris Jerome, during World War II.

The play will open the Butler Little Theatre’s 2017-18 season.

Run dates are Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 and Oct. 3 to 7.

The show is being directed by Bob Craig and produced by Marianne Snider.

The cast includes Cody Nagle, John Carlson, Josh Donovan, Adam Pawlowicz, Grant Clark, Montana Simpson, Don Shearer, Amy Cannard and Allison Torres.

[naviga:h3]Foodie Fest returns[/naviga:h3]

GROVE CITY — Grove City’s Memorial Park on West Main Street will be the site of the fourth annual Foodie Fest from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Highland and Joseph D. Monteleone picnic shelters.

Attendees will be able to sample different foods that restaurants are known for or try new items that restaurants may be planning to add to menus.

Live musical entertainment will be performed by Treebeard Brown.

Cost is $10 for adults; $5 for children ages 3 to 12; and free for children 2 and younger. Call 724-458-6410.

[naviga:h3]Penn’s Colony begins[/naviga:h3]

CLINTON TWP — The 34th annual Penn’s Colony Festival & Folk Art Marketplace will be Saturday and Sunday and Sept. 23 and 24 this year on the grounds at 365 Saxonburg Blvd.

Penn’s Colony weaves French and Indian War era history of the Pittsburgh region into a colonial festival featuring the artisans and period entertainers.

Admission includes two stages of entertainment, period performers, music, battle re-enactments, craft and history demonstrations, food purveyors and children’s activities.

[naviga:h3]Exotic animal show planned[/naviga:h3]

BRADY TWP — A free exotic animal show, presented by TASOW, will take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road.

The show will feature mostly reptiles and amphibians that have been rescued from people who had them as pets and were unable to take care of them.

TASOW was formed in 2004 by a group of students from Slippery Rock High School and has 25 active volunteers. Its mission is to educate the public about the importance of conservation and protecting animals.
