Brewers bludgeon Bucs

Milwaukee hits 4 HRs in victory over Pirates

MILWAUKEE — Jedd Gyorko belted two hone runs and Corbin Burnes struck out 10 in six innings Friday night as the Milwaukee Brewers cruised past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-1, at Miller Park.

The win exacted some revenge for Milwaukee, which was swept in a three-game series by the Pirates last weekend at PNC Park.

The Brewers hit four home runs Friday. Jacob Nottingham hit one 436 feet and Ryan Braun drilled a solo shot.

Mark Mathias added a two-run double in the fifth for Milwaukee.

All four Milwaukee home runs came against Pittsburgh starter Derek Holland, who was touched for eight earned runs in five innings.

Burnes walked no one in his six innings of work. The Pirates managed only four hits on the night. Pittsburgh’s only run came on J.T. Riddle’s first home run of the season — a 417-foot shot into the upper deck in right field — in the seventh.

The loss snapped a brief two-game winning streak for the Pirates (9-20), who swept a doubleheader Thursday in St. Louis. Pittsburgh had won five of its last seven games entering Friday.

JT Brubaker gets the start on the mound Saturday night for the Pirates as they play the second of a four-game series in Milwaukee.
