GOP wants Robinson appointed judge
The Butler County Republican Committee wants William Robinson appointed as judge now to help with a growing backlog.
A letter submitted to Gov. Tom Wolf on Aug. 28 claims that Robinson's victory in both Republican and Democratic primaries should indicate a high likelihood of winning the general election this fall.
On Tuesday, Al Lindsay, county GOP committee chairman, said they hope Wolf will appoint Robinson to the seat immediately.
“He's in a state of limbo now. He's winding down his practice, and he's sitting on the sideline waiting to be judge,” Lindsay said. “There's a need out there for him.”
The judicial position has been open since late 2018, when Judge Marilyn Horan was appointed to a U.S. District Court seat.
“Since her appointment to the federal bench, Butler County has not been served with a full complement of judges,” the letter stated. “As a result, not only has there been a backlog of cases, but the citizens of Butler County are not being properly served.”
If appointed, Robinson would serve as judge until the November election for which he now runs officially unopposed. If he wins, he will continue as judge.
The only way Robinson could be opposed is through a write-in campaign.
Lindsay said Robinson's losing would be unlikely. He said he has not heard of anyone announcing a write-in campaign for this race.
“Conceivably someone could win a write-in campaign,” Lindsay said. “But, that's a tough one.”
Lindsay said he believes Robinson will win in the fall, and the sooner he can begin, the better it will be for Butler County.
“I think overall, he won both primaries because he's a very strong candidate,” Lindsay said. “This guy is going to be a great judge. Why not appoint him and let him get started?”
