County reps among those calling to impeach Wolf

COVID in nursing homes at issue

Two Butler County state representatives introduced a resolution Monday calling for the impeachment of Gov. Tom Wolf.

House Resolution 56, sponsored by state Reps. Daryl Metcalfe, R-12th, Marci Mustello, R-11th, and 28 other House Republicans, attacks Wolf's COVID-19 containment orders as well as his handling of long-term care facilities with respect to the pandemic.

The five articles of impeachment, all pertaining to COVID-19 and the governor's associated executive orders, accuse Wolf of violating residents' Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights, causing the permanent closure of businesses, failing to appropriately administer unemployment insurance, causing the COVID-19-related deaths of those in nursing homes, and withholding critical information from the public, press and General Assembly.

This is Metcalfe's second attempt to impeach Wolf during the pandemic. His first attempt in June 2020 had more sponsors and died in the Judiciary Committee.

Metcalfe, on this occasion, focused on the deaths of those living in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

“During a Fox News interview on Feb. 13, while calling for a federal investigation into New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's mishandling of COVID-19, U.S. Congressman Tom Reed, R-N.Y., indicated that there is evidence that Tom Wolf cookie-cuttered and imposed Cuomo's lethal nursing home orders across Pennsylvania,” Metcalfe said in a statement. “Regardless of the level of collaboration between Wolf and Cuomo, the majority of all COVID-19-related fatalities in this commonwealth are directly connected to Wolf and his former health secretary's unconscionable order to admit infected COVID-19 patients into Pennsylvania nursing homes and long-term care facilities.”
