Light Up Mars event to close streets

MARS — Streets in the borough will be closed Nov. 27 for the Small Business Saturday and Light Up Mars holiday event.

Pittsburgh Street will close from Crowe Avenue to Grand Avenue and Grand Avenue will close from Marshall Way to Clark Street from 3 to 8 p.m. that day.

East Railroad Street from Clark Street to Marshall Way also will close.

“That is where everyone is going to be lining up for the parade,” Mars borough council member Julie Schultheis said.

The road closure was approved by borough council Monday night.

The Chatham University graduate students who have been working with the borough to collect local input on Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) improvements and projects will give presentations on their work Dec. 7 and Dec. 9, Mayor Gregg Hartung said.The classes, taught by Thomas Macagno, program director of sustainability at Chatham, and Roy Weitzell, aquatic laboratory director at Chatham, have had a series of community listening sessions over the past several weeks to gather feedback on future preservation of Breakneck Creek and efforts to address sediment pollution and clogging in the stream“One is Roy (Weitzell)'s class, which is on the tributaries mapping the outlets for Breakneck in Mars borough, and the second will be on the presentation of the information we got from people at Applefest, at Stick City, the library, and Penn Mar Plaza, where we got input from residents about Breakneck,” Hartung said.The details of the meetings are still being decided, but the meetings will likely be held both virtually and in person.
