A 16-year-old boy was flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital Thursday night after crashing his dirt bike at SwitchbackMX dirt track in Clay Township.

Butler Ambulance responded to the scene assisted by West Sunbury and Unionville firefighters.

Lt. Chris Traggiai, of West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, said the boy was conscious and was wearing a helmet.

“Butler Ambulance Service was there, and they were already caring for the patient,” Traggiai said. “We assisted (EMS) in getting him loaded up.”

According to Traggiai, the boy was taken by ambulance to the Unionville Fire Station, where the landing zone was established.

According to Butler County 911 radio transmissions, the boy was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
