WASHINGTON TWP — A 21-year-old North Washington man was killed Friday night after being hit by a minivan while walking along Route 38.

State police said Cody Wiles was walking south in the northbound lane shortly after 10:15 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Andrew Cohen, 47, of Stroudsburg.

Police said Cohen was driving south when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a designated passing zone.

Cohen crossed into the northbound lane to pass the unknown vehicle and struck Wiles, according to police.

Wiles was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The North Washington Volunteer Fire Department went to the accident. Crews left by 12:30 a.m. today.

The accident is still under investigation by state police.
