Incident escalates during response

Man arrested after alleged altercation

A domestic incident escalated as a man shoved an officer and resisted during his arrest late Tuesday night.

Butler City Police filed charges against Theodore C. Young, 76, of Butler, who was later arraigned by District Judge William Fullerton and released on his own recognizance.

According to charging documents, policed arrived at a possible domestic dispute around 10:07 p.m. at a home on the 200 block of Kaufman Drive.

Police said Young called for EMS to take his wife to a hospital for being drunk.

“EMS advised me that (the wife) refused to go to the hospital and said she just wanted to go to sleep,” police said.

Police said they talked with the wife, who again refused transport. Officers said while speaking with Young, they noticed a “strong smell” of alcohol coming from him.

Police said Young became argumentative with officers, and he tried to shut the door of the home while EMS was still inside.

“I put my foot against the door and advised Theodore that he was not shutting the door with EMS still inside,” police said.

A struggle over the door ensued, according to police.

“Theodore then placed his hands on my chest area of my vest and began pushing me backwards,” police said. “I then grabbed Theodore by his arms and swept him to the floor.”

Police said Young continued to resist as officers arrested him.

A preliminary hearing for Young has been scheduled for Nov. 29 before Fullerton.
