Warrant issued for man accused of selling Ecstasy
BUTLER TWP — A Lyndora man is wanted on charges of trafficking the party drug known as “Molly.”
David Lee Weichey Jr., 31, allegedly sold the synthetic drug MDMA on two separate occasions last month to a police informant, authorities said.
District Judge Kevin O’Donnell on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Weichey on drug trafficking and other charges that followed a five-month investigation by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics.
The defendant became the target after the office in March launched the probe into suspected sales of MDMA in and around Butler, according to court documents.
Investigators described Weichey as an “MDMA trafficker.”
MDMA is the pure form of Ecstasy, commonly called “Molly.”
The drug, which is chemically similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens, is known for inducing feelings of euphoria, closeness and diminished anxiety, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
State narcotics agents during the investigation met with an informant, who knew the defendant sold the MDMA.
The informant subsequently set up a controlled buy Aug. 22 in the area of Weichey’s home on Pierce Avenue, investigators said.
The alleged buyer and seller used cell phones to set up the deal, which surveillance agents watched take place.
A similar pre-arranged deal occurred Aug. 29, documents said, when the suspect again sold MDMA to the informant at the Clearview Mall in Center Township.
Weichey is charged with two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.
Butler County Court records showed the defendant has a pending drugged driving case. He also has a criminal record that includes felony convictions for access device fraud and burglary.
